What I Have Made And Saved For Companies

Although by no means an exhaustive list, here is a selection of my key 'Made and Saved' highlights.

Made for businesses
• Achieved eleven out of twelve monthly sales targets with Lyons Tetley winning a sales incentive holiday as a result.

• Launched Professional Builder generating £750k of profitable revenue in 1983.

• Increased Running Magazine annual subscriptions by 20% to 22k.

• Doubled the advertising sales of Fleet News (weekly B2B paper for fleet managers) to £2m per annum.

• Introduced a series of high profile national newspaper promotions that delivered 120k redemptions, profit for the business by charging a fee and generated thousands of incremental bookings for member Johansens hoteliers.

• Increased Johansens hotel guide sales from 10k per annum to 40k per annum.

• Launched the Johansens Business Meetings Planner generating £90k in the first edition.

• Launched new editions of Bargain pages in Coventry, Oxford and Stoke producing £140k new revenue per annum in advertising and copy sales turnover.

• Negotiated WH Smith terms down at Bargain Pages generating £40k incremental annual revenue from the trade.

• Turned a trading loss of £70k into a profit of £500k at Bargain Pages.

• Increased the weekly free ad content of Bargain Pages from 50k per week to 85k per week.

• Increased return on turnover each year to 23% in my final year at Bargain Pages.

• Launched www.countrysideonline.co.uk for the NFU that delivered 50k unique visitors within five months of launch.

• Increased NFU Countryside membership by 9% and introduced new membership benefits and an events programme to increase annual revenues by £45k.

• Developed Emigrate as a glossy magazine and published it via the newstrade generating over £500k turnover in the first year of publication. 

• Delivered an ecommerce strategy that enabled the sale of £200k plus of advanced ticket sales for shows since its inception in 2009.

• Conceived and delivered six new consumer shows that, despite tough trading times in the events sector, delivered c.£350k turnover with shows breaking even at worst. 

• Doubled the turnover of IIMS in four years and returned it to profit, cluminating in a record profit in 2018.

Saved for businesses
• Negotiated a long term lease when with Bargain Pages that saved the business £20k per annum over several years resulting in superior offices that the landlord paid to renovate as a sweetner.

• Closed down World of Property shows before the industry forced us to do just that saving reputational damage and the potential destruction of the company.

• Several examples of streamlining processes in companies using new technology, thus reducing costs and overheads as a result and being more productive adding to bottom line profitability.

• Reduced newstrade wholesaler margins at Bargain Pages delivering £40k extra turnover per annum.

• Drove down the cost of venue tenancy agreements by as much as 50%, saving over £50k versus budget for a series of events.

• Successfully negotiated contractor rates lower for the various events.

• Negotiated media rates hard for campaigns versus rate cards enabling an extra 40% media exposure as a result for the budget.

• Relocated JP Events & Exhibitions from Eastbourne to Hastings saving rates and other costs, following the sale of the property.
